Devotion

Having thus acquired the rare gift of Devotion the sage prepared a funeral pile and discarding all attachment from his heart ascended it.

उन्ते श्री राम के श्रि मुख के में स्त स्य स्य विरध को लेकर स्त स्य स्य विरध को वब स्त स्य स्य विरध को वब विरध को वब स्त स्य स्य विरधको

To the great soul who has the highest devotion to God, and as much to his teacher as to God, these truths that have been declared shine forth.

यस्य देवे परा भक्तिः यथा देवे तथा गुरौ । तस्यैते कथिता ह्यर्थाः प्रकाशन्ते महात्मनः ॥ २३॥

Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, sacrifice to me, bow down to me. Thus you will come to me — truly I promise you, for you are dear to me.

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु | मामेवैष्यसि सत्यं ते प्रतिजाने प्रियोऽसि मे ||१८-६५||

However people approach me, so do I receive them; for it is my path that all people follow in every way, Arjuna.

ये यथा मां प्रपद्यन्ते तांस्तथैव भजाम्यहम् | मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ||४-११||

It is that same ancient yoga that I have taught you today, for you are my devotee and my friend; and this is the supreme secret.

स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योगः प्रोक्तः पुरातनः | भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् ||४-३||

Mentally surrendering all actions to me, holding me as the highest, resorting to the yoga of intellect, keep your mind constantly fixed on me.

चेतसा सर्वकर्माणि मयि संन्यस्य मत्परः | बुद्धियोगमुपाश्रित्य मच्चित्तः सततं भव ||१८-५७||

Through devotion he comes to know me truly, what and who I am; then, knowing me truly, he enters me immediately after.

भक्त्या मामभिजानाति यावान्यश्चास्मि तत्त्वतः | ततो मां तत्त्वतो ज्ञात्वा विशते तदनन्तरम् ||१८-५५||

Having become Brahman, serene in self, he neither grieves nor desires. Regarding all beings as equal, he attains supreme devotion to me.

ब्रह्मभूतः प्रसन्नात्मा न शोचति न काङ्क्षति | समः सर्वेषु भूतेषु मद्भक्तिं लभते पराम् ||१८-५४||

But those who honor this nectar of dharma as declared here, full of faith and holding me as supreme — those devotees are exceedingly dear to me.

ये तु धर्म्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते | श्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रियाः ||१२-२०||

Fix your mind on me alone; place your understanding in me. Then you will dwell in me alone hereafter — of this there is no doubt.

मय्येव मन आधत्स्व मयि बुद्धिं निवेशय | निवसिष्यसि मय्येव अत ऊर्ध्वं न संशयः ||१२-८||

for those whose minds are absorbed in me, I soon become the deliverer from the ocean of death and rebirth, Partha.

तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात् | भवामि नचिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम् ||१२-७||

The Blessed Lord said: Those who fix their minds on me and worship me, ever steadfast and endowed with supreme faith — them I consider the most perfect in yoga.

श्रीभगवानुवाच | मय्यावेश्य मनो ये मां नित्ययुक्ता उपासते | श्रद्धया परयोपेताः ते मे युक्ततमा मताः ||१२-२||

One who does my work, holds me as supreme, is devoted to me, free from attachment, and without enmity toward any being — that person comes to me, Pandava.

मत्कर्मकृन्मत्परमो मद्भक्तः सङ्गवर्जितः | निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स मामेति पाण्डव ||११-५५||

But by undivided devotion, Arjuna, I can be known and truly seen in this form, and entered into, scorcher of foes.

भक्त्या त्वनन्यया शक्य अहमेवंविधोऽर्जुन | ज्ञातुं द्रष्टुं च तत्त्वेन प्रवेष्टुं च परन्तप ||११-५४||

Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, sacrifice to me, bow down to me. Disciplining yourself in this way, wholly devoted to me, you will come to me.

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु | मामेवैष्यसि युक्त्वैवमात्मानं मत्परायणः ||९-३४||

Whoever offers me, with devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water — that offering of devotion, made by the pure of heart, I accept and partake of.

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति | तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः ||९-२६||

For one who sees me everywhere and sees everything in me, I am never lost, and that person is never lost to me.

यो मां पश्यति सर्वत्र सर्वं च मयि पश्यति | तस्याहं न प्रणश्यामि स च मे न प्रणश्यति ||६-३०||
