Conduct

One who has withdrawn all their senses into the Self, and who has not caused pain to any creature except as permitted by the scriptures, conducts themselves in this way throughout their life. They reach the World of Brahman after death and do not return.

The yogi who, having attained unity, worships me dwelling in all beings, remains in me, regardless of his way of life.

Undisciplined, vulgar, obstinate, deceitful, spiteful, slothful, despondent, and a perpetual procrastinator — such a doer is called tamasic.

Do not be negligent in your duties to the gods and the ancestors. Regard your mother as a deity. Regard your father as a deity. Regard your teacher as a deity. Regard the guest as a deity. Perform only those actions that are blameless, not others. Follow those of our deeds that are praiseworthy and worthy of emulation.

Demoniac persons know neither right activity nor withdrawal from it. In them there is no purity, no proper conduct, and no truth.

The way of life that is based on not harming any creatures, or causing the least harm when necessary, is the highest morality.

One who lacks wealth is not truly poor, but one who lacks good manners and conduct is indeed poor.

As a person acts and conducts themselves, so will they become.

'The thief of gold, the drinker of liquor, the defiler of his teacher's bed, and the slayer of a brahmin—these four fall, and as the fifth, he who keeps company with them.'

Not others. Toward those among the learned who are superior to us, you must yield your seat and breathe with reverence. Give with faith, never give without faith. Give with prosperity, give with modesty, give with awe, give with understanding. And if ever you have doubt about an action or doubt about conduct —

Among them, those whose conduct here has been good will quickly attain a good birth—birth as a brahmin, a kshatriya, or a vaishya. But those whose conduct here has been foul will quickly attain a foul birth—birth as a dog, a pig, or a chandala.

We must realise before starting any action that this God-Nirankar is watching us. We can hide ourselves from the eyes of human beings, but we cannot escape the eyes of the One to whom we are answerable for our actions. Once we realise this in our mind, we cannot do wrong, speak wrong, behave wrong.

"If a man answers harshly his father, mother, brother, sister, teacher, or a brahmin, people say to him, 'Shame on you! You are indeed a slayer of your father, a slayer of your mother, a slayer of your brother, a slayer of your sister, a slayer of your teacher, a slayer of a brahmin.'"

And people also say, 'Ah, this is sama for us!' when something good happens, meaning 'Ah, this is good!'; and 'Ah, this is asama for us!' when something bad happens, meaning 'Ah, this is bad!'

Thus people also say, 'He approached him with sama,' meaning 'He approached him with good intent'; and they say, 'He approached him with asama,' meaning 'He approached him with ill intent.'

He who thus knows these Revati verses as woven in animals becomes rich in animals, reaches the full span of life, lives brightly, becomes great in offspring and cattle, and great in fame. His vow is this: he should not revile animals.

He who thus knows these Shakvari verses as woven in the worlds becomes a possessor of worlds, reaches the full span of life, lives brightly, becomes great in offspring and cattle, and great in fame. His vow is this: he should not revile the worlds.

He who thus knows this Brihat as woven in the sun becomes radiant and an eater of food, reaches the full span of life, lives brightly, becomes great in offspring and cattle, and great in fame. His vow is this: he should not revile the burning sun.

One must never refuse shelter to a guest who comes seeking it — that is the sacred vow. Therefore by whatever means one can gather abundant food, one should do so. When food is prepared with the welcome of a guest, they say it is food well accomplished. If the food is accomplished in the beginning, food flows to the host from the beginning. If it is accomplished in the middle, food flows to the host from the middle. If it is accomplished at the end, food flows to the host at the end.

Merely having information about something is not the sign of completeness. It is very necessary that action, that is conduct, be joined to the information. Today there is no shortage of information or knowledge in the world, but knowledge has not been joined with action, and that is why the world is unhappy today.
