Brahman

O Sesha, I am extremely pleased with your self-denial and love for peace.

Brahman said, 'O powerful one, the deities will from now on give you a share of the sacrificial offerings! O Lord of all deities, please withdraw your anger!'

Brahman said, 'I treat all creatures equally. However, I do not approve of unrighteousness. Let Taraka, who is an enemy of the deities and the rishis, be quickly destroyed. The Vedas and eternal duties will not be destroyed. I have done what is right in this matter. Let your fears be alleviated.'

During the bright fortnight of the month of Pausha, when the constellation Rohini is in conjunction, one can acquire the merits of performing great sacrifices by purifying oneself, lying under the open sky, clad in a single piece of raiment, with faith and concentrated attention, and drinking the rays of the moon.

Brahman said, 'I will now accurately describe to you the quality of Passion.'

Hold the Earth properly, O Sesha, with its mountains, forests, oceans, cities, and hermitages, so it can be stable.

You should not grieve for your brothers. Ask me for the boon you desire.

I shall recite everything to you in detail, so that you can understand how people can acquire the merits of sacrifices even when they are unable to perform them due to poverty.

But when your anger is provoked, you will be freed from my curse.
