Universal
Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji
Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji was the second spiritual head of the Sant Nirankari Mission, serving from 1962 to 1980, during which he expanded the mission nationally and internationally and established its core organisational structures. He was widely revered for his eloquence, accessibility, and tireless service in spreading the message of universal brotherhood.
Born in Peshawar in 1930, Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji received spiritual knowledge at a young age from his father, Baba Avtar Singh Ji, the founder of the Sant Nirankari Mission. After succeeding his father as spiritual head in 1962, he devoted himself entirely to expanding the mission's reach, establishing branches across India and initiating the mission's international spread to countries including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Known for his inspiring discourses and poetic compositions in Punjabi and Hindi, he articulated the mission's philosophy of love, humility, and service in a manner that resonated deeply with followers from all walks of life. He presided over major annual gatherings (samagams) that drew hundreds of thousands of devotees and helped consolidate the organisational and charitable activities of the mission. His life was cut short when he was assassinated in Delhi in 1980, an event that deeply shocked his followers but did not diminish the mission's continued growth under his successors.
