From neither side alone can any reality be established — nor is this a duality. Just as the rim of a chariot wheel is fixed upon the spokes, and the spokes are fixed upon the hub, so too are the elements of the outer world fixed upon the measures of awareness, and the measures of awareness are fixed upon the vital breath. This vital breath is indeed the self of awareness — it is bliss, ageless, immortal. It is not enlarged by virtuous action nor diminished by harmful action. It is this self that leads the one it wishes to raise up toward virtuous action, and this same self that leads the one it wishes to draw away from the worlds toward harmful action. It is the guardian of the worlds, the sovereign of the worlds, the lord of all. Know it as my Self — know it as my Self.

The first step to self-knowledge is to know that you are composed of a physical body and a spiritual heart or soul
