The gods breathe along with breath, as do humans and cattle alike. For vital breath is the very life-span of all beings; therefore it is called the full life of all. Those who contemplate vital breath as Brahman attain the full span of life. Vital breath is the life of all beings — so it is called the total life. This is the bodily self of the prior sheath. Within and beyond this sheath of vital breath there is yet another inner self, composed of mind; by that, this one is filled.
